What does the ombudsperson do?
- Provides a safe, neutral place to discuss
problems
- Advocates for fairness
- Maintains confidentiality
- Helps clarify policies and procedures
- Refers graduate students to appropriate resources
- Recommends changes in university policies
What does the ombudsperson NOT do?
- Advocate for the university or the student
- Participate in formal grievance procedures
- Provide legal advice
- Accept notice for the university
Meet the Ombuds
Ennis McCrery, a graduate of Virginia Tech (B.A. in English, M.F.A. in Creative Writing) was appointed to establish the Office of the Graduate Student Ombudsperson in April 2007. The office is in its pilot phase (until spring 2009).
